Discussion & Conclusion

Q: Is it related to the results presented before? Do you consider them as coherent?

A: Good

Comments: The Discussion provides an overview of how the intake of chia seed counteracts the kidney failure of MS induced by the sucrose rich diet (SRD) providing relevant literature. The study also highlighted the mechanism by which the chia seeds work and restore the key enzymes of gluconeogenesis and improve kidney failure induced by SRD. The Conclusion summarizes that dietary chia improves renal failure by decreasing PRAT and de novo fatty acid biosynthesis and increasing antioxidant defenses.

Comments: The are few errors found in the manuscript, which are as follows:

·       Under Abstract, 1st sentence, “The Metabolic Syndrome (MS) has become the major health hazard of the current world…” is reframed as “Metabolic Syndrome (MS) has become a major health hazard in the current world…”.

·       Under Introduction, 4th paragraph, 4th sentence, “For testing this hypothesize, a relevant experimental model of MS was induced by feeding rats…” should be written as “For testing this hypothesis, a relevant experimental model of MS was induced by feeding rats…”.

·       Under Experimental design, 1st paragraph, 5th sentence, word ‘feed’ must be replaced with ‘fed’ to maintain the meaning of the sentence.

·       Under heading ‘Effects of dietary chia seed administration upon renal injury induced by SRD”, 3rd paragraph, 2nd sentence, “Hematoxylin & Eosin-stained section of kidney show glomerular hyaline changes…” must be rewritten as “Hematoxylin & Eosin-stained sections of kidney show hyaline glomerular changes…”.

Further comments on the paper

Comments: The manuscript hypothesized that the intake of chia seed could counteract kidney failure of Metabolic Syndrome (MS) by protecting against lipid accretion, oxidative stress and fibrosis. The research is based on an experimental model of MS male Wistar rats. The results stated that the mechanisms include down-regulation of key enzymes of fatty acid biosynthesis and up-regulation of antioxidant defenses. The manuscript illustrated the overall methods of the experiment to indicate chia seed as an exceptional food for the clinical management of this MS.
