Discussion & Conclusion

Q: Is it related to the results presented before? Do you consider them as coherent?

A: Good

Comments: The Discussion establishes that it is important to analyse the factors affecting the treatment effectiveness and prognosis of patients with leukemia, to better guide the decision of clinical treatment plan. It highlights that there is a certain correlation between the long-term survival of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients and their age of onset. The Discussion illustrates that immunotyping can not only help to diagnose and differentiate leukemia but also act as an independent factor for risk stratification of AML. The study concludes that the prognosis of AML patients is influenced by multiple factors and the prognosis should be done according to risk factors. Also, appropriate chemotherapy regimens should be selected for patients of different age groups.

Comments: Except the following errors have been detected:

1.     The 1st sentence in the 4th paragraph under Introduction was not making sense and should be changed to “Xiaoli Wang had performed such a study on survival in acute myeloid leukemia a negative phase relationship with age, but Claudia Bănescu et al. has shown…. total survival.”

2.     The 1st sentence in the 3rd paragraph under Discussion was not framed properly and should be changed to “Through the observation of the clinical situation, the long-term survival of patients with clinical symptoms and the long-term survival in patients with no evident difference between the original amount of young cells and bone marrow comparative there is no…. chemotherapy.”

3.     The full form of the abbreviations GT and MDS have not been mentioned.

 Further comments on the paper

Comments: The study aims at investigating the prognostic factors influencing adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in a study population of 51 AML patients. The study has observed that age and the history of MDS prodrome were independent prognostic factors affecting overall survival (OS). The study illustrates that appropriate chemotherapy regimens should be selected for patients of different age groups to achieve complete remission (CR) in the early stage. It highlights that allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) should be carried out as far as possible for high-risk cytogenetics patients to extend the survival time and improve the quality of life. The study illustrates that bone marrow transplantation is an effective treatment option. However, transplant-related mortality remains high, thereby limiting improvement in OS. The study concludes that the prognosis of AML patients is influenced by multiple factors and the prognosis should be done according to risk factors.
