Comments:

The observations of the study are appropriately examined and clarified in the Discussion. Increased overall survival rates and larynx preservation rates have proved the potential of induction chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil (TPF) and subsequent chemoradiotherapy to treat locally advanced head and neck cancer (LAHNC) patients. The limitations are properly addressed in this section. Further research is required to validate the findings of this study.

Further comments on the paper

Comments: This single-center retrospective review, involving 108 patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer (LAHNC), states that induction chemotherapy with docetaxel, cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil (TPF) is one of the optimal treatment strategies for LAHNC patients. Although induction chemotherapy followed by chemoradiotherapy has achieved higher larynx preservation rates and prolongs overall survival rates, the toxicity-related concern is still unresolved. Delay and dose reduction of TPF and chemoradiotherapy may reduce the efficiency of the treatment. The implementation of minimal delay or dose reduction of TPF induction and subsequent chemoradiotherapy in future trials may have a probability to prove its superiority over chemoradiotherapy alone in LAHNC treatment.
