Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor with an Unusual Site and Age Presentation: A Case Report and Literature Review

Review Data

The rare case report presents a 32-old-year man with palpable axillary mass and multiple bilateral lung nodules, which showed nests of small round cells and desmoplastic stroma. This case strongly illustrates the importance of recognizing the morphologic features of rare desmoplastic small round cell tumor malignancy which shows an atypical presentation that can often be misinterpreted as poorly differentiated carcinoma and lead to inappropriate treatment.

The discussion clearly elaborates on the manner in which the patient was diagnosed and briefly explains the relevant literature. Overall, the case report is well written and is suitable for the journal Surgical Case Reports (SCR).

There are only a few minor errors (already corrected in galley proof). These are:

·       In abstract, 5th sentence and in discussion, 2nd paragraph, 1st sentence, “possible breast primary” must be rewritten as “possible primary breast cancer”.

·       Some determiners such as “an”, “the” are missing in certain places, like in introduction, 1st paragraph, 4th sentence, “occurrence” must be written as “an occurrence”; 2nd paragraph, 1st sentence, “abundant” must be written as “the abundant”.

·       In discussion, 3rd paragraph, 1st sentence, “DSRCT” must be “DSRCT was” and there is overuse of article in certain places like, “a diagnosis” will be “diagnosis”, “a histologic” will be “histologic”.

In case presentation, 5th paragraph, 9th sentence, “a EWSR1” must be written as “an EWSR1”, and 6th paragraph, 3rd line, “on” must be replaced with “in”.
