Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Four Genes Associated with Survival Outcome for Patients with Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Four Genes Associated with Survival Outcome for Patients with Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Review Data

Purpose and Significance of Study: This study aimed to use a bioinformatics pipeline to explore the underlying mechanisms and identify genetic mutations that can be utilized to prognosticate individuals with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The results from this study may contribute to the evaluation of prognosis and development of future individualized HNSCC treatment.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Clinical Oncology and Cancer Biology.

There are some minor errors in the manuscript (already corrected in the galley proof, except the highlighted one, which requires the author’s attention), which are listed below –

The common ones are –

·       Some abbreviations have been used without citing the full forms, e.g., HPV, PPI, GO, KEGG and GEPIA.

·       Omission of “,”, e.g., after “annually” in the 2nd sentence of the 1st paragraph of the Introduction, after “poor” in the 7th sentence of the same paragraph, and so on.

·       Omission of articles, e.g., “the” before “identification” in the 6th sentence of the 3rd paragraph of the Introduction, before “PPI” in the 3rd sentence of the last paragraph of the Introduction, and so on.

·       “Anticancer” and “antitumor” must be written without hyphens.

·       “P-value” and “cyclin-dependent” must be hyphenated.

The others are –

In the Abstract –

  Under Results –

·       In the 1st sentence, “tumor” and “mutation” must be in plural.

In the Introduction –

  In the 1st paragraph –

·       In the last sentence, “,” before “early” must be replaced with “by”.

  In the 2nd paragraph –

·       In the 1st sentence, “have” must be replaced with “has”.

·       In the last sentence, “may” must be replaced with “might”.

  In the 3rd paragraph –

·       In the 2nd sentence, “,” after “et al.” must be removed.

In the Materials and Methods –

Under Construction of PPI network and analysis of mutation and expression –

·       In the 1st sentence, “for” at the start must be replaced with “to”.

·       In the 4th sentence, “for the purpose of elucidating” must be replaced with “to elucidate”.

Under Association of selected mutant genes with HNSCC survival –

·       In the 1st sentence, “tumor” must be in plural.

·       In the 2nd sentence, “was” must be replaced with “were”.

·       In the last sentence, “which” must be replaced with “that”.

Under GSEA analysis of the mutant genes –

·       In the last sentence, “phenotype” must be in plural.

Under Drug Sensitivity of the mutant genes –

·       The 2nd sentence “GSCALite contains…integrated into GSCALite” is incorrectly constructed, making it hard to read or understand. Hence, it must be re-written.

In the Discussion –

  In the 3rd paragraph –

·       In the 1st sentence, “analysis” must be replaced with “analyses”, and “indicate” must be replaced with “indicated”.

·       In the 6th sentence, “,” before “Kim et al.” must be replaced with “.”, “,” before “the result” must be replaced with “;”, and “consisted” must be replaced with “consistent”.

  In the 4th paragraph –

·       In the 3rd sentence, “enrich” must be replaced with “enriched”.

  In the last paragraph –

·       In the 1st sentence, “were” must be replaced with “was”.

·       In the 6th sentence, “through” must be replaced with “by”, and “promotion of” must be replaced with “promoting”.

·       In the last sentence, “in” before “the therapy” must be replaced with “for”.
