Discussion & Conclusion

Q: Is it related to the results presented before? Do you consider them as coherent?

A: Very good

Comments: The Discussion aptly explains the rationale behind using the treatment approach, the implications of the findings of the present study, and analyzes the possible reasons for the outcome. The authors report a decrease in the duration of postoperative ICU hospital days in patients with extensive Hurley stage III hidradenitis on their genitalia, perineum, buttocks, and inguinal crease with the application of Cygnus tissue matrix to the wound during the first stage of treatment. Also, the limitations of the study are enlisted, including the retrospective methodology, the possibility of data being unavailable within the medical records, and the small population size (5).

Comments: A few minor issues were noted –

·       In the title, “,” must be replaced with “:”.

·       In the 1st sentence of the Introduction, “(HS)” must be inserted after “Hidradenitis suppurativa” as the abbreviation has been used later.

·       “,” before “however” in the middle of the sentence and before “including” must be replaced with “;”.

·       “post-operative” must be replaced with “postoperative” throughout the text for the sake of consistency.

·       The 4th sentence of the 3rd paragraph of the Materials and Methods, “This is commonly the time when the wounds are reconstructed with local tissue and skin grafts” must be replaced with “This is the time when the wounds are usually reconstructed with local tissue and skin grafts”.

·       Commas and articles were missing in a few places.

Further comments on the paper

Comments: The authors, in order to determine the efficacy of amniotic tissue matrix application to surgically-excised hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) wounds, conducted a 5-year retrospective review of 5 patients who had amniotic tissue matrix applied to their surgical wounds post the surgical treatment of perineal, perianal, and inguinal hidradenitis suppurativa at a hospital. This approach offers an adjunctive improvement to the treatment of HS, which is a painful and disfiguring disease, often having a delayed diagnosis. This is significant as this is the first report to present the results of the application of amniotic tissue matrix in the treatment of hidradenitis.

Q: Would you recommend this manuscript for further publication?
