A: Excellent
Discussion & Conclusion
Q: Is it related to the results presented before? Do you consider them as coherent?
A: Excellent
Comments: The Discussion section, with the help of adequate relevant literature, demonstrates that submaximal mouth opening by mandibular extension (ME) induces a prolonged reduction in blood pressure, particularly in systolic pressure, not only in normotensive but even more in hypertensive subjects. In Conclusion, this study states that passive ME may be used as non-pharmacological aid in the treatment of moderate to mild arterial hypertension.

Further comments on the paper
Comments: This study provides the first evidence that mandibular extension (ME) has a significant role in inducing hypotensive effect when applied to rat and human subjects with high blood pressure, making their arterial blood pressure decrease toward normal values for at least two hours. It states that a passive sub-maximal opening of the mouth causes a significant reduction in arterial blood pressure. The findings suggest a relation between baseline blood pressure and hypotensive response so that the effects of ME appear greater in the hypertensive condition. This study is limited due to small sample size.
