A Systematic Review of the Electrodiagnostic Assessment of Neonatal Brachial Plexus Palsy

Review Data

Purpose and Significance of Study: This is a comprehensive review of the electrodiagnostic assessment (including nerve conduction and electromyography studies) of neonatal brachial plexus. These techniques aid clinicians to differentiate between axonal and demyelinating lesions and provide prognostic information in cases of brachial plexus injuries.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Neurology and Neurobiology.

The manuscript is very well-written. A few very minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof) are listed below –

·       Omission of articles in a few places, e.g., “the” before “spinal” in the last sentence of the 1st paragraph of Classifications of Neonatal Brachial Plexus Injuries, “an” before “increase” in the 7th sentence of the 2nd paragraph of Human Nerve Conduction Studies in Normal Uninjured Brachial Plexus, and so on.

·       Unnecessary use of “,” a few times, e.g., before “but also” in the 3rd sentence of the 2nd paragraph of Introduction, after “both” in the 10th sentence of the 1st paragraph under Using Electrodiagnostic Techniques to Assess Brachial Plexus Injury, and so on.

·       The positioning of some words in the sentences is incorrect, e.g., “also are” must be replaced with “are also” in the 3rd sentence of the 2nd paragraph of Introduction, “correctly” must be placed at the end in the 2nd sentence of the 1st paragraph of Human Electromyography Studies in Injured Brachial Plexus, in order to maintain the formal tone, and so on.

·       “muscle” and “biceps” were misspelled a few times.

·       Numbers greater than one digit must be written in numeric form rather than in words.

·       “i.e.” must be followed by “,” throughout the text.
