Mechanical Properties of Cervical Spinal Cord in Neonatal Piglet: In Vitro

Mechanical Properties of Cervical Spinal Cord in Neonatal Piglet: In Vitro

Review Data

Purpose and Significance of Study: The authors attempted to determine the response of neonatal spinal cord tissue to tensile loading in pigs. The results may help us understand neonatal spinal cord injury mechanisms better and develop injury prevention strategies, thus protecting neonates from often significant long-term deficits.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Neurology and Neurobiology.

The manuscript contains just a few minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof, except the highlighted one which requires the author’s attention), which are listed below –

The common ones are –

·       Omission of “the”, e.g., before “biomechanical” and “spinal” in the last sentence of the Abstract, before “validity” in the last sentence of the 1st paragraph of the Introduction, and so on.

·       Omission or overuse of “,”, e.g., overuse after “injuries” and “delivery” in the 1st sentence of the 1st paragraph of the Introduction, after “i.e.”, “e.g.”, and so on.

The others are –

In the Abstract –

·       In the last sentence, “better” must instead be placed after “mechanisms”.

In the Introduction –

  In the 1st paragraph –

·       In the 1st sentence, “occurs” must be replaced with “occur”, and “results” must be replaced with “result”.

·       In the 3rd sentence, “human” must be replaced with “humans”.

In the Methods and Materials –

  Under Camera System Setup –

·       In the 1st sentence, “(” before “Basler acA640-120uc camera” must be replaced with “,”.

In the Discussion –

  In the 1st paragraph –

·       In the 2nd sentence, “human” must be replaced with “humans”.

  In the 2nd paragraph –

·       In the 2nd sentence, “biofidelic” must be rephrased as there is no such word.
