Hematochezia in a 1.5-Year-Old Child Diagnosed as a Colonic Arteriovenous Malformation

§  Significance of the Study: This is the first case report in pediatric surgery literature of laparoscopic approach for complex/symptomatic high flow arteriovenous malformation (AVM) [inferior mesenteric artery and vein (IMA-IMV shunt)]. This report, involving a 1.5-year-old child with the complaint of hematochezia, focuses on the importance of hemicolectomy which led to reduction of gastrointestinal bleeding, fast recovery with minimal pain medications and excellent cosmetic outcomes.

§  Fit with the Scope of the Journal: The manuscript perfectly fits with the scope of the journal Surgical Case Reports.

§  The Discussion presents the clinical manifestations associated with vascular anomalies, elaborates on the rationale behind the importance of surgical therapy in the treatment of hematochezia and describes the different therapeutic approaches, for example, coagulation, embolization, surgical resections. Figures are briefly explained.

 

§  A few minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof) are listed below:

o   Words like “arteriovenous”, “colorectal”, “multidisciplinary” should be written as single word.

o   Words like “telangiectasia”, “haemorrhage”, “naevi”, “were”, “taken”, “differential”, “ischaemia” are misspelled in the text section.

o   Words like “post-procedural”, “hemi-colon” should be hyphenated.

o   In the 3rd sentence of the Introduction, “at” should be replaced with “for” after “presented”.

o   In the 1st sentence of the last paragraph of the Case Report, “detail” should be replaced with “detailed”.

o   In the 3rd sentence of the last paragraph of the Case Report, “ligasure” should be written as “LigaSure”.

o   In the last sentence of the last paragraph of the Case Report, “at” should be replaced with “on” after “appeared”.

o   Punctuations and articles were missing in several places throughout the text section of the article.
