A Remarkable Case of Elevated Carcinoembryonic Antigen after Surgical Treatment of Rectal Cancer: A Search for its Mysterious Cause

Review Data

Purpose and Significance of Study: This is a case report about the abnormal elevated levels of serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in a 57-year-old female patient after neoadjuvant chemoradiation and surgery for rectal adenocarcinoma, without a diagnosable cause. All possible causes were indeed ruled out. There is an absence of any similar report in the existing literature, thus making this a novel case.

Fit with Scope of Journal: The manuscript is of very high interest for the journal Surgical Case Reports.
