Pilot Investigation of Pediatric Weight Loss Clinic’s Family Exercise Program to Improve Children’s Physiological and Behaviour-Related Outcomes

Pilot Investigation of Pediatric Weight Loss Clinic’s Family Exercise Program to Improve Children’s Physiological and Behaviour-Related Outcomes

Review Data

™      Significance of the Study: This report is only the second in the literature to examine whether a clinic-organized family exercise program enhances outcomes for children with obesity. Although not much improvement was observed in the physiology of the children, the behavioral-related outcomes were reported to be have improved. This is significant as currently for multidisciplinary pediatric weight loss programs, there are no set guidelines as to where physical activity should be performed- in the weight loss center or outside of the weight loss center.

™    Fit with Journal: The manuscript is highly suited for the Journal of Integrative Cardiology Open Access.

™      The trial sets performed are quite persuading and the observations are appropriately examined and clarified in the Conclusion. The figures and tables adequately justify the report findings. Further analysis by future studies are required to determine the most successful approach for an improved physiological outcome for children with obesity.

™      The manuscript is mostly well-written except a few minor errors (already corrected in the galley proof), which are listed below –

§  The heading “Introduction” must be introduced.

§  In the 5th sentence of 1st paragraph of Introduction, “in contrast” should be removed.

§  In the 2nd sentence of 2nd paragraph of Participants under Methods, “a” should be replaced with “an”.

§  In the 4th sentence of 2nd paragraph of Measurement of physiological and behavioral outcomes under Procedures, “clinic” should be replaced with “clinic’s”.

§  In the 5th sentence of 3rd paragraph of Conclusion, “to” should be removed.

§  In the 4th sentence of 2nd paragraph of Study strengths, limitations, and directions for future research, “exercises” should be replaced with “exercise”.

§  Commas and articles, e.g., “the” were missing in several places throughout the text.
