Comments:

In the present review, the methodology was performed according to the Cochrane Manual of Systematic Review. The Discussion puts forth the rationale for taking up the study, effectively describes the relevant literature and enlists the implications of the findings from the present study in that context. The study is well supported with briefly explained figures and tables. The Conclusion is consistent with the evidences presented in this article and aptly states that Vitamin D supplementation was effective in increasing vitamin D levels and improving pain, physical function and, to a lesser extent, stiffness in patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.

Further comments on the paper

Comments: This study aims to undertake a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies (RCTs) to determine the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation in knee osteoarthritis (OA) symptoms and progression, compared with placebo. This study holds significance as vitamin D supplementation was effective in improving Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) pain and function in patients with knee OA and also improved serological vitamin D levels. There are currently no medical treatments established to prevent the disease progression, only to control the symptomatology. The small sample size, inclusion of patients with sufficient vitamin D levels, duration of the intervention and inclusion of patients with advanced OA come out as few of the limitations of the included studies.

Q: Would you recommend this manuscript for further publication?
